CLE on Reporting of Child Sexual Abuse Cases
Gawthrop Greenwood attorney John Rafferty will offer a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) training course titled, “PA and NJ Open the Doors for Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse.”
Rafferty’s course provides 1 ethics credit (and is free to law clerks) on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 3pm. Attendees will learn more about how underreporting and delayed reporting in child sexual abuse cases are powering a national trend toward expanded timelines for reporting to law enforcement and for instituting suits. Rafferty will provide the latest data revealing challenges in reporting and will share examples of how different state legislatures are working to make justice more accessible for survivors. Attendees will learn about the recently expanded statutes of limitations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, while also better understanding the emerging research that supports these expansions. Rafferty will also provide practice tips about preparing witnesses and evidence in cases of child sexual abuse, as well as some practical steps about how attorneys can better empower survivors.
