35th Annual Gawthrop Greenwood Law Prize Awarded to 3 Students

For 35 years, Gawthrop Greenwood has awarded a Law Prize to three local students, and this year’s winners are expressing their appreciation.

“The history and prestige of the award and Gawthrop Greenwood, PC makes the selection a huge honor for me,” said award recipient Alexander Cortes. “I will continue to advance my education and learn more through working hard over my next 4 years in college.”

Created in 1991, the Gawthrop Greenwood Law Prize ensures the advancement and education of Chester County’s youth by awarding a student from each of the three high schools in the West Chester Area School District. This year’s law prize winners, receiving $1,000 each, are:

• Victoria Murray – Graduate of West Chester East High School, attending Penn State University
• Andrew Souza – Graduate of Bayard Rustin High School, attending Shippensburg University
• Alexander Cortes – Graduate of West Chester B. Reed Henderson High School, attending Wake Forest University

Each award recipient also received a copy of the book “Carpe Every Diem: The Best Graduation Advice from More than 100 Commencement Speeches,” by Robie Rogge, “a thought-provoking collection of quotes from famous graduation speakers meant to motivate and inspire the next generation of leaders. Paired by theme, many of the quotes complement one another.”

“It is our hope that in this 35th year of the Gawthrop Greenwood Law Prize, we are all inspired to assist the next generation of students in whatever ways we can, whether it be taking the time to guide an intern, provide insight from our own experiences or simply offer a kind word of support. Every action matters,” said Gawthrop Greenwood partner Stacey Fuller, who practices in the area of education law and has served as president of the West Chester Area Education Foundation.

Gawthrop Greenwood has been encouraging, recognizing and honoring academic excellence since the law firm’s founding in 1904.
