Gawthrop Greenwood Welcomes Municipal, Land Use and Development Lawyer Allyson T. Cohen
Gawthrop Greenwood, PC is pleased to announce that municipal, land use and development lawyer Allyson T. Cohen has joined the firm as an associate, representing municipalities, property owners and applicants in navigating the legal issues surrounding land development and property use.
With experience in municipal litigation, zoning disputes and land use appeals, Allyson assists clients with matters involving zoning hearing boards, code violations, variances, conditional use applications and special exceptions.
“Allyson has a deep understanding of the direct impact of land use and zoning law on people’s everyday lives, as well as how these matters shape the communities where we live and work,” said Stephen R. McDonnell, chair of the management committee at Gawthrop Greenwood. “From municipalities to homeowners and other property owners, that personal connection is highly valued.”
Prior to joining Gawthrop Greenwood, Cohen practiced municipal law, land use, zoning, and civil litigation at a Chester County law firm where her experience included drafting motions, pleadings and other litigation documents, as well as working on matters involving Pennsylvania’s Municipalities Planning Code and other laws governing local government operations. Her legal experience also includes internships with the Colorado Attorney General’s Office and the Rutland County State’s Attorney’s Office in Vermont, as well as work with the South Royalton Legal Clinic.
Cohen earned her Juris Doctor from Vermont Law and Graduate School, where she served as a Staff Editor for the Vermont Law Review and Vermont Journal of Environmental Law, participated in the National Moot Court Competition Team, served on the Moot Court Advisory Board, and was president of the Jewish Law Student Association. She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and is a member of the Chester County Bar Association as well as its Young Lawyers Division.
